The Devil's Rejects Wikipedia

house of 1000 corpses trilogy

This one is the rare outing in which critics and horror buffs may have aligned in terms of franchise enthusiasm, though to be fair the box office numbers say different. Halloween II tells the story of Laurie Strode's (Taylor Scout-Compton) psychological demise following the events of the first film, while Dr. Loomis (Malcom McDowell) cashes in on his connection to the Myers legacy. There's a mystical element at play in this one centered on a "white horse" and Strode having weird visions that rubbed some the wrong way, but you be the judge. Whether it's his haunted-house-come-to-life aesthetic or willingness to crank the gore factor up to 11, there's no denying Rob Zombie is a master of kills and thrills. After he leaves the brothel, Wydell threatens Charlie to give up the Fireflys. With the help of the "Unholy Two," the sheriff takes the family back to the Firefly house where Wydell tortures them, using similar methods they used on their own victims.

In The Devil’s Rejects, gone are the Brian De Palma shots and the LSD-inspired transitions. It’s clear that Rob Zombie grew as a writer and a director in between these two films. One thing that isn’t different is Rob Zombie’s appreciation and use for character actors. Soles, from Carrie and Halloween, as well as my buddy Diamond Dallas Page, and a wide range of skilled character actors throughout this film.

He nails Otis' hands to his chair and staples crime-scene photographs to Otis's and Baby's stomachs, then he beats and shocks Captain Spaulding and Otis with a cattle prod and taunts Baby about the death of her mother. While walking to the location, the two prisoners attack Otis, but Otis bludgeons Roy and cuts Adam's face off. Back at the motel, Adam's wife Wendy tries to escape through the bathroom window. Wendy runs out of the motel but is caught by Captain Spaulding, who knocks her unconscious.

Review: ‘Monsters of the American Cinema’ confronts the horror in grief

This film carries the honor of being partially crowdfunded (twice!) and also having been rated twice as NC-17 by the MPAA before finally receiving a hard R. Chances are, if you're already a Rob Zombie fan, you'll get just the kind of blood, sex, and exploitation for which you have showed up. Otis, Baby, and Foxy manage to successfully cross the border and flee to a small town in Mexico that is celebrating the Day of the Dead and hole up in the town's lone hotel. They briefly worry about being recognized but dismiss these concerns, unaware that the hotel's owner has in fact recognized them and has alerted Rondo's son, Aquarius, to their location. The owner keeps them occupied with both the celebration and local prostitutes, while Aquarius heads out to the location with several henchmen in tow. The following morning, Baby bonds with a local worker, Sebastian, who notices Aquarius's arrival.

She makes her way to the main road where she encounters Captain Spaulding, who gives her a ride in his car. She passes out from exhaustion in the front seat, and Otis suddenly appears in the back seat with a knife. Denise later wakes up to find herself strapped to an operating table, surrounded by Dr. Satan and Earl, who survived the cave-in. The movie ends with Denise screaming in horror and the words "The End?" displayed before the end credits. Icons of Darkness joins nearby tourist stops including Madame Tussauds Hollywood and Ripley’s Believe It or Not!

Neither of us realized going into the theater just how crazy House of 1000 Corpses was going to be. It’s very clear how Rob Zombie was heavily influenced by Tobe Hooper’s most iconic film. Like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Zombie’s debut movie is set in the 1970s.

He warns Baby of the danger before running to warn Otis, just as Aquarius's men break into the whorehouse. Otis and Sebastian hold off the attackers until Foxy arrives and rescues them both. Otis separates from them, managing to successfully find the hotel owner and kill him. During this time, Baby manages to kill several of Aquarius's men using a bow and arrow set she took from Harper's house. During this, Aquarius tells Sebastian that he is not worth the bullet and leaves him for dead. Aquarius and his remaining goons use Baby and Foxy to draw Otis out into the open.

Through the reports, it is revealed that Baby, Otis, and Captain Spaulding miraculously survived their shootout with the police and that they will be tried for their crimes. The trial is widely covered nationwide and becomes a cause célèbre, resulting in the organization of protests that insist the trio's innocence. Numerous fanatics also adopt the chant "Free the Three", claiming that their crimes were committed as a means to fight against the system.

The success of this movie spawned a sequel, The Devil’s Rejects, and a third entry in the series, 3 From Hell, was just released on digital and physical video this month. Let’s take a look back at these films about the infamous Firefly family, including my thoughts and Rob Zombie’s insights on each of these twisted tales. When it comes to names that are synonymous with Halloween, horror movie director Rob Zombie certainly deserves his gritty, blood-soaked legacy. As a platinum-selling rocker with White Zombie who started as a production assistant on Pee-Wee's Playhouse, Zombie's transformation to film director has yielded some of horror's biggest cult hits. And with House of 1000 Corpses set to return to theaters this October nearly 20 years after its release, it's easy to see how the killer creative has made his mark.

There's an abundance of gore in this derivative horror movie, but little sense or wit. Fans of the John Carpenter classic Halloween were rightly skeptical when this reboot was announced. Word has it that the horror master's only advice to Zombie was to "make it his own," and that he did. Though some audiences were put off by the decision to explain the somewhat grounded home life of Michael Myers, completionists will want to seek out the director's cut which allegedly is bonkers enough to justify its existence. Otis appears and squares off against one of Aquarius's men in a knife fight, while Sebastian sneaks up and silently frees both Foxy and Baby.

Correll’s partners in the museum are film producer and real estate developer Elie Samaha, and entrepreneur and film producer Steve Markoff. Samaha announced in August that Hollywood’s landmark Yamashiro restaurant, which he co-operates, will open a new branch at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro. By Correll’s reckoning, it’s time the traditionally less critically acclaimed side of the movie business got cultural respect in line with its audience appeal. On a recent evening, Correll showed off his collection to visitors with boyish enthusiasm, guffawing when funhouse air blasts startled viewers of Freddy Kruger, Jason Voorhees and figures of other nightmare-inducing creeps clad in their movie-worn costumes. Hollywood’s next attraction meant to lure millions of annual visitors is a feast of movie monsters and science fiction villains gathered by a former child actor turned director whose collecting hobby escalated to blockbuster proportions. They steal a car, kill the driver, and go to Kahiki Palms, a run-down motel. Gogh with Lifeway Kefir a unique wellness experience featuring yoga and mindfulness sessions. “It’s fair to say that tourists are coming back,” said Drew Planting, chairman of the Hollywood Partnership board of directors. It will also have a store, he said, “where you can go in and buy zombie-related stuff, but also play games” such as “throwing brains into zombie heads” and shooting at the undead. The more permanent attraction upstairs at Hollywood & Highland will be called Icons of Darkness/The Science Fiction Fantasy and Horror Hall of Fame, he said.

Wydell sets the house on fire and leaves Otis and Spaulding to burn, but he lets Baby loose outside so he can hunt her for sport. Baby gets shot in the calf of her left leg, brutally horse-whipped, and then strangled by Wydell. Tiny suddenly arrives and intervenes, breaking Wydell's neck and saving the Firefly family.

It is the third and final installment in the Firefly trilogy, which began with House of 1000 Corpses (2003), and stars Sheri Moon Zombie, Bill Moseley, Richard Brake and Sid Haig. The plot follows an incarcerated Otis Driftwood and Baby Firefly being freed by Otis's half-brother, after barely surviving a police shootout a decade ago. The Devil's Rejects was released on July 22, 2005, to minor commercial success, and mixed reviews, although it was generally considered an improvement over its predecessor.
